Intake Manager

Summary
At Street Dog Hero, our mission is to serve dogs and communities in need through rescue, adoption, wellness, spay/neuter, and education. We have saved close to 3,500 dogs to date and counting. The Intake Manager drives forward our mission of rescuing more dogs and saving more lives each year!
Essential Functions
● Manage all categories of our Intake Program including transfers, owner surrenders, and rehomes.
● Build and maintain rescue partner relationships on a local, national, and international scale.
● Collaborate and strategize with other team members to ensure the intake schedule is working cohesively with other departmental operations.
● Plan and facilitate all aspects of transports including partner communication, animal selection, logistics, and receiving of incoming animals.
● Maintain regular, detailed, communication with team regarding intake schedule and incoming animals.
● Input and maintain animal profiles, records, notes, etc. in shelter software.
● Write and update animal biographies based on incoming records, foster survey responses, and feedback from staff and volunteers.
● Work with the Executive Director, Animal Care Manager, Medical Manager, Foster & Volunteer Manager, and Adoptions Manager to make behavioral treatment and euthanasia decisions.
● Create and enact updated policies and procedures for Intake program operations.
● Along with other program managers, monitor progress of animals in SDH care to ensure they are progressing towards adoption.
● Innovate new programs, ideas, or improvements to grow and improve the Intake program.
● Prioritize animal welfare and safety of both animals and people at all times. ● Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
● High School degree or equivalent.
● Excellent communication skills.
● Animal handling and care experience.
● Customer-centric, non-judgmental approach to engaging with pet owners, rescue partners, adopters, visitors, volunteers, and colleagues.
● Ability to work with, leash, kennel, walk, and handle dogs, including those with health and/or behavior conditions/concerns.
● Basic ability to identify and speak to medical and behavioral characteristics of dogs.
● Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative team player, personable, professional, and able to get along with people from different backgrounds, as well as the ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
● Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with well-developed organization skills to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite products and familiarity with shelter software/animal management software, or desire to learn.
● Have or be able to obtain a valid Oregon driver’s license.
Preferences
● Animal shelter/rescue experience.
● Familiarity with the operational aspects of a nonprofit and/or animal welfare organization.
● Familiarity with Street Dog Hero, our work, and our mission.
