“Tio snuggled his way into our lives (and couch) unexpectedly. James and I always talked about getting a dog and had finally agreed; we wanted a female with big floppy ears and a fluffy tail. Well, we got none of that and we couldn’t be happier.
We picked up Tio from PDX one Saturday evening last January and he stayed with us for one night before he made his journey to Bend to his permanent foster. When we dropped him off to catch his ride to Bend, he gave us one last infamous “Tio Hug” and looked us in the eyes, almost as if to say “Hey guys, I like your couch... you’re okay too. Can’t I stay?” Immediately after he drove off, we reached out to SDH to say we needed him back. He wasn’t what we were looking for but he was exactly what we needed.

One year later and we cannot imagine life without this sweet pup. He was nervous at first but has come a long way. He’s finally sticking his head out of the car window, he’s famous at my office for his hugs, and, boy, can he run. Nothing makes us happier than coming home and seeing his little nub wagging. He’s perfect.

Also, James and I spent that entire Sunday going back and forth. We weren’t ready for a dog, though we knew he was a good one. I distracted myself from the situation and heartbreak of knowing that we weren’t ready by cleaning the house. An hour or two later, James walked up to me and showed me that post from SDH that said we were adopting him. Thinking of that moment, realizing he was OUR dog, looking at the original post, it still brings tears to my eyes.” @uncle.tapatio with his humans @mkonar & @james.heredia
